"Does it hurt?" is the question I'm asked more than any other, and it's often the one thing holding people back from booking. So here's an honest answer: what laser hair removal really feels like, which areas are more sensitive, and everything I do to keep you comfortable.
A quick snap, then warmth
Everyone is different, but most people describe each pulse as a quick ping, like an elastic band, followed by a feeling of warmth. It's over very quickly, and most clients find it very manageable. For most people, it also gets easier with every session.
What does it actually feel like?
Each pulse of the laser lasts a fraction of a second. You'll feel a short, sharp snap on the skin, and then a warm sensation as the heat reaches the hair follicles. Between pulses, the feeling fades almost straight away.
Afterwards, the treated area may feel warm and look a little pink, a bit like mild sunburn. This usually settles within a few hours. What to expect after your session
Which areas are more sensitive?
Some areas feel stronger than others, mostly because of how thick and dense the hair is and how thin the skin is. This is a general guide. Everyone feels it differently.
Even the stronger areas are over quickly, and they're the ones that get easiest as your course goes on.
What affects how it feels?
How thick and dark your hair is
The laser targets the pigment in your hair. Thick, dark, dense hair absorbs more energy, so you'll feel more, especially at your first session.
Which session you're on
As your hair becomes finer and sparser, there's less for the laser to target, so most clients find each session easier than the last.
How well the area is shaved
Hair left above the skin heats up on the surface and can make treatment feel hotter. A close shave within 24 hours of your appointment makes a real difference.
Your time of the month
Many women find their skin more sensitive just before and during their period. If that's you, it's worth booking around it.
The type of laser
Our Nd:YAG laser works deeper in the skin, which some people find slightly more intense than other lasers. Its built-in cooling helps a lot with comfort. About our laser

Is laser more painful than waxing?
Everyone's experience is different, but many clients who've had regular waxing find laser easier. Waxing pulls every hair out by the root at once, while laser is a series of quick pulses with cooling in between. And unlike waxing, you won't need to put up with it for the rest of your life: once your course is complete, you'll only need occasional top-ups.
Before your appointment: shave the area within 24 hours, avoid the sun and sunbeds for 14 days, and wear loose, comfortable clothing. If you're nervous, tell me. A few slow breaths and a chat go a long way. Pre and post care guide
Frequently asked questions
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most people describe it as a quick ping, like an elastic band, followed by warmth. It's over quickly, and most clients find it very manageable. It usually gets easier with each session as the hair reduces.
Does Brazilian laser hair removal hurt more?
The bikini area is usually one of the more sensitive areas because the hair is thick and the skin is delicate. It's also the area that tends to get easiest fastest, as the hair reduces over your course.
Does it get less painful over time?
For most people, yes. As your hair becomes finer and sparser, there's less pigment for the laser to target, so each session usually feels gentler than the last.
Can I try it before committing to a course?
Yes. Your free patch test lets you feel the laser on a small area before your first full session, with no pressure to book.
Will my skin hurt afterwards?
The area may feel warm and look pink for a few hours, a bit like mild sunburn. Aloe vera gel or a clean cool pack helps soothe the skin.
