Why hormonal hair behaves differently

Conditions such as PCOS/PMOS, thyroid changes, menopause and some medications can raise the level of hormones that stimulate hair growth. This can cause thicker, darker hair to appear in places such as the chin, jawline, upper lip, neck, chest and stomach.

PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) is the new name for the condition previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Read more on the NHS website

Because your hormones keep sending that signal, hormonal hair can be slower to respond and new hairs can appear over time. That doesn't mean laser won't help. It means your plan needs to be realistic, with the right spacing between sessions and regular maintenance built in from the start.

Honest expectations

What laser can and can't do for hormonal hair

We'd rather be honest with you from day one. Laser is one of the most effective ways to reduce hormonal hair, but it works alongside your hormones, not against them.

It canSignificantly reduce the amount of hair, make regrowth finer and lighter, and cut down the time you spend plucking, shaving and waxing.
It can'tTreat PCOS/PMOS or change your hormone levels. New hairs may still appear over time, which is why top-up sessions are part of your plan.
Works best onDark, coarse hair. Very fine, light, grey or red hair doesn't have enough pigment to respond.

Realistic results

What results can I expect?

Most clients need a course of 6 to 10 sessions, and hormonal hair often sits at the higher end of that range. Many clients notice finer, slower regrowth after the first few sessions.

Because hormones can wake up new follicles over time, you'll need regular maintenance sessions once your course is complete. We'll plan these with you so they fit around your life and your budget. Results & sessions explained

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I have laser hair removal if I have PCOS/PMOS?

Yes. Many people with PCOS/PMOS have laser hair removal. Because PCOS/PMOS is a hormonal condition, hair may keep being stimulated over time, so you'll need regular maintenance sessions after your course to keep results consistent.

How many sessions will I need for hormonal hair?

Most clients need 6 to 10 sessions, and hormonal hair often needs the higher end of that range. After your course, we'll plan top-up sessions around how your hair responds.

Will laser cure my PCOS/PMOS or stop hair growing completely?

No. Laser reduces the hair you already have, but it doesn't treat PCOS/PMOS or change your hormones. New hairs can appear over time, which is why maintenance sessions are part of your plan.

I take medication for PCOS/PMOS. Can I still have treatment?

Often yes, but some medications can make skin more sensitive to light. Please tell us about any medication at your consultation, and let us know if anything changes during your course.

Can you treat grey or fair facial hair?

Unfortunately not. The laser targets pigment, so grey, white, blonde and red hairs don't absorb enough energy. We'll tell you honestly at your consultation which hairs we can treat.

Can I pluck between sessions?

No. Plucking, waxing and threading remove the root the laser needs to target. You can shave or trim between sessions instead.
